UKOS aims to improve opportunities for children and youth by funding holistic, long-term programmes that can create substantial, lasting change. We work with The Dragons Apprentice Challenge, a community initiative linking students from local schools and colleges with local businesses and charities.
Having completed its 8th year, the Dragons’ Apprentice Challenge offers Year 12 students the opportunity to experience setting up and running a business, gaining organisational and job-related skills and learning about the work and beneficiaries of their designated charity. As dragons, we mentor teams of young people to meet the challenge of “turning £100 into £1,000 or more” for their designated charity/community organisation. At UKOS we were very excited to have been partnered with Team Phoenix at Kings Langley School and the charity organisation, Carers in Herts, for this year’s Dragons Apprentice Challenge. This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to raise the profile of unpaid carers including children as young as 3 years old
By using their business skills they raised funds so that they can deliver more free support to carers across the county
Through this business venture, Carers in Herts managed to build a strong partnership with the school to help them identify and support more students who may have a caring role at home. Team Phoenix Raised a fantastic £1174.00 through all their fantastic events and hard work and a staggering £18,621.39 across all the teams that competed in the challenge
UKOS are very proud to have been part of this challenge for both the students and charity alike and look forward to it again this year
